Motor-cognitive profiling by ElectroMe Lab
What is it?
An innovative assessment developed by Electrome Lab that creates an individual motorcognitive profile and identifies which cognitive processes interfere most with footwork performance.
How it works?
We measure footwork parameters using a small device while a fencer performs movements under different types of cognitive load related to decisionmaking on the piste.
What is the outcome?
Outcomes:
-
Individual motor-cognitive profile
-
Objective, measurable, and comparable results
-
Individually calculated, achievable improvement goals
-
Examples of cognitive exercises to combine with regular footwork training
Recognitions
Recognitions:
-
Motor-Cognitive Profiling was validated with the Bulgarian National Sabre Team and used to assess athletes from the Belgian and Dutch national teams, as well as fencers across all three weapons at the 2026 International Fencing Camp Bocholt.
-
In 2026, Electrome Lab received an official letter of appreciation from the FIE following its presentation at the Hong Kong Sports Medicine Conference and the Best Presentation Award at the International Fencing Research Committee Conference.
FAQs
What kind of problems can MCP help solve?
-
When fencing, you often think in words, don't you? Have you ever been hit while mentally planning your own attack? This is not unusual. Verbal processing involves brain networks that also contribute to motor control and may interfere with footwork performance. MCP helps us measure the extent of this interference and provides exercises designed to reduce it.
Do I need any special equipment for the assessment or training?
-
No. We provide all the necessary equipment for the assessment. For the remote training program, you only need a laptop, tablet, or smartphone to follow the exercises. No special equipment is required.
Will it interfere with my regular fencing training or my coach's training plan?
-
Not at all. The program includes footwork exercises combined with cognitive tasks, some of which can also be integrated into regular footwork training. Our program complements your coach's training plan rather than replacing it.
Can these skills benefit me beyond fencing?
-
Absolutely. The program is designed to improve movement precision and stability, timing, concentration, information prioritization, and anxiety management. These skills can also be valuable in academic performance and everyday life.
*How to order?
To manage demand, we’re currently prioritizing clubs located in NJ, NY and PA, which lets us bring ElectroMe to more fencers at once. If you run a club, get in touch to arrange a team assessment. Individual fencers, we haven’t forgotten you: dedicated individual sessions are planned for later in 2027, and in the meantime, your club can bring ElectroMe to you.
